ABOUT US
The Artist Mentorship Program (AMP) is a Portland based non-profit that provides a creative space for homeless youth to build healthy, relationship-centered communities through music and art activities.
At AMP, we believe that youth experiencing homelessness are resilient, creative, and deserving of a dynamic support system that nurtures an environment where they can heal from trauma.
WHAT WE DO
Established in 1994, AMP is supported by Portland’s music and artist communities who volunteer their time to provide:
-
One on one music instruction
-
Art lessons/workshops
-
Professional recording studio
-
Performance opportunities
-
Live sound and recording engineering training
-
Group jam sessions
-
Arts and culture events (museums, gallery, concert and theater outings)
-
Meal services
-
Hygiene and first aid supports
Open five days per week for youth to access AMP resources, we offer state of the art music and recording equipment, one on one instruction for both art and music, and group jam sessions.
Additionally, AMP’s mobile outreach team brings music and art resources to Portland homeless youth service providers, municipal parks, juvenile detention centers, and urban camping sites. Follow us on Instagram for updated locations!
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT
Recording Studio
Consistently one of the most sought after activities at AMP is the recording studio - hosted by professional recording engineers, who work to demystify music industry standard software like Logic Pro X, Pro Tools and Ableton Live. Check out AMP radio to hear a great selection of some of the amazing talent of AMP youth! Special thanks to Fremont Recording, Brud Giles, and DJ Wattage Beats for their support.
